Yaw Tog – Time EP. Last year, Ghanaian star Yaw Tog stormed to the top of the Apple Music, Audiomack and Boomplay charts with massive debut single, “Sore” (which translates to ‘rise up’). A handful of singles soon followed, but then he returned to the track this month with Stormzy and fellow Ghanaian Kwesi Arthur to give the Chris Rich-produced banger a whole new lease of life.
Today, Yaw Tog returns with his debut EP, TIME. In a recent interview with DJ Mag, he said of the project: “I’m very much an Asakaa boy, but I wanted people to know I can do every type of music, from drill to hip-hop and Afrobeats. I want to build connections with this one, with people from every genre.”
Rounding out the production on the seven-tracker—which favours the Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur remix over the original, with the only other feature being fellow Ghanaian rapper Sean Lifer—are beats from Doosis, KhendiBeatz, Juiczx and DG Productions.
It’s a huge moment for the 19-year-old star who’s found himself thrust to the forefront of Ghana’s rapidly flourishing Asakaa scene, the drill sound at the forefront of the local Kumerica subculture. Not bad for a tune he made with his friends in a home studio.
